Azerbaijan National Museum of ArtAzerbaijan National Museum of Art is situated in the heart of Baku in one of the most beautiful ancient residences of the 19-th century. According to Baku history researchers in 1888,a beautiful residence of De Bur- a superintendent of baron Rotshild (Rothschild), was built by a civil engineer N.A.Fon der Nonne on str. Sadovaya 9. Its grandness has made this building a compositional accent of a district surrounded by other historical and administrative buildings. In 1951 the museum had situated in the residence, by that time having had “participated” and passed through a line of the countries extremely important historical points. In 1922 neighbouring building of a former girls’ school named after Russian Empress Mariinskaya school has been added to the museum’s territory. Currently the modern Azerbaijan art exhibitiion is showcased in this same building. The museum collection contains more than 19 000 exhibits, including rare samples of different artistic styles and periods both of national and world culture making it very appealing for art lovers, specialists and regular visitors. Indeed it is interesting to follow the history of a group of exhibits, belonging to different periods and different prominent historical figures, among which were Baku oil magnats- collectors of antiquities and world known museum collections. The museum presents to its guests a great opportunity to meet the largest colllection of national painting and graphics, following a process of a formation and development of the mainstreams and undeground styles, interrelated with difficult historical processes of the region. A wide collection of the best aestetic samples of national applied art and archeological artefacts of different periods from the Stone Age to present times makes this collection unique as it shows an anlthology of all kinds of national arts with its most beautiful samples. The painting fund of the museum counts more than 3400 works of Azerbaijani, Russian and Western European artists. The graphical fund owning more than 6 thousand units stands out by its reachness and diversity. The porcelain and ceramics fund has 3000 exhibits, representing Azerbaijan, Russia, Western European and Oriental countries. The fund owns a wide collection of Russian porcelain of the 19-20th centuries, including the pieces of Russian Emperor’s Porcelain Factory. The textile fund has a very rich collection of valuable artifacts from Azerbaijan and other countries. The biggest part of the collection belongs to Azerbaijani carpets of all traditional carpet making schools. Some pieces are unique and have no analogs in other local cultural centers. The collection of national embroidery is very beautiful as it shows all kinds of technique of this ancient handicraft artwork which had glorified and brought a worldwide pride to our country in ancient times. The Museum is proud to own the oldest sample of national embroidery dated back to the 17th century. National garment made of richly decorated local fabrics is also shown in the collection. Many beautiful samples of European and Oriental textile, carpet making and embroidery are stored in the museum funds. It is worth to mention beautiful collection of tapestry and fans. The museum today is a modern flexible body, monitoring all current trends, news and perspectives in the museum management sector. The main task of it is to create and adopt only those positive initiatives which are in line with the main mission of the museum – protect, promote and popularize its outstanding collection, establish strong connections among people and use universal cultural language to unite and enrich global through diversity of national values.
Azerbaijan National Carpet MuseumAzerbaijan National Carpet Museum was established in accordance with the decree No. 130 of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR dated March 13, 1967. From 1967 to 1993, the museum was called the Azerbaijan State Museum of Carpet and Folk Applied Arts, from 1993 to 2014 – State Museum of Carpet and Applied Arts named after Latif Karimov, from 2014 to 2019 – Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, and from 2019 to the present – Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum.
The State Museum of Musical Culture of AzerbaijanTThe State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan was founded in 1967. Main objectives and policies of the Museum: collection, preservation, study, popularization and reactivation of the materials related to the history of the Azerbaijani music. There are more than 56 thousands exhibits collected in the museum fund. Among them are such Azerbaijan national musical instruments as tar, kamancha, saz, daf, goshanaghara, zurna, ney as well as other musical instruments with specific features - cane-tar, cane-saz. Furthermore, the museum's collection contains gramophones, gramophone records, musical boxes, original music manuscripts (scores) of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, the founder of the Azerbaijan professional music, Bulbul, the founder of the national professional vocal art, and the famous composers Gara Garayev, Fikret Amirov and other distinguished music figures, personal belongings of the prominent musicians, posters, playbills, photographs, audio and video records, fine art exhibits, sheet music, books and other materials. All of them are valuable samples of the Azerbaijan national musical culture.
National Museum of History of AzerbaijanANAS National Museum of History of Azerbaijan is a scientific research, cultural and educational establishment dealing with collecting, researching, displaying, propagating the monuments of material and spiritual culture concerning all periods of the history of Azerbaijan. Since July 1920, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan has been operating in the mansion that prominent oil magnate and philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev had it built during 1895-1901.
Memorial Museum of BulbulMemorial Museum of Bulbul was created in 1976. The museum was placed in 4 exposition rooms. The museum collects documents and materials about Bulbul's creative, scientific, pedagogical, social activities. Among them there are original manuscripts, gramophone shafts, photographs, notes, books, household items, artwork and personal belongings.
House-Museum of Abdulla ShaigThe museum was established in 1905. House Museum of Abdullah Shaig consists of four rooms. In the first room the own books of the writer and his various translations of world-known works such as “Shahnameh”, “Macbeth”, “Gulliver”, “Robinson Crusoe” and, etch are exhibited. The living room is used to hang the portraits of his families: Yusif Ziya Talibzade (his elder brother), his wife Shahzade khanim. There is also a carpet that depicts the writer and his son Kamal. The most of pedagogical activities and his works related to children’s drama is displayed in the third room. The fourth room (used to be office of Abdulla Shaig) a large number of his personal objects were collected. Here the most valuable exhibit is a desk which the writer did not change until the end of his life. Overall, the museum has over 4,000 exhibits in four rooms: writer’s books, photos, and personal objects.
Memorial Museum of Yusuf MammadalievThe museum has been operating since 1985. In 2013 the museum was expanded. In 2015 the Club of Young Scientists was created at the museum.
Nizami Ganjavi MuseumOn the occasion of Nizami Ganjavi`s the 840th jubilee, a house-model was constructed in a house 10, turn lll in Ismat Kayibov street for making the two – parted “Nizami” film in 1980. From 1984, Nizami Ganjavi Memorial-House Museum began its work in the same house-model belonging to the structure of Ganja city Culture Office, countinuing its action in “Kızıl Hajılı” Historical Architectial Monument located in Tabriz street, from january 1th 2004 to 2014. İn 2013, a four stroreyed building in modern style was constructed in the area of Nizami Ganjavi mausoleum with the support of “Haydar Aliyev Foundation”. There is an exibition hall (493 m), 12 rooms, a conference hall (for 100 people) and a cafe in the building. The Prezident of Azerbaijan Republic İlham Aliyev took part in the museum opening ceremony during his next visit to Ganja, on january 24th, 2014. There are 542 exibits in Nizami Ganjavi Memorial-House Museum. 418 exibits are demonstrated there. The most ancient exibits of museum are the original Khamsa manuscripts and the samples of “Kurani-Kerim” that carried out by Nizami Ganjavi İnternational Center.
House-Museum of Mir Jalal PashayevHouse-Museum of Mir Jalal Pashayev was opened on 29 September in 2007, on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the prominent writer. The outstanding novelist scientist and pedagogue Mir Jalal Pashayev was one of the founders of the modern Azerbaijan literature. The exhibits exhibited in the museum consists of Mir Jalal Pashayev’s works, his documents, photos reflecting his life and activity in different years. the writer’s personal passport, orders, and medal attract special attention among the exhibing exhibits. There are currently more than 350 exhibits in the museum.
